Re: Does it make sense
100% Service Crew on all ships is the way to go. Marines are only good for boarding and defending against enemy boarding crews. However, since the AI does not board your vessels, they are useless on player ships and you are better off using 100% service crew, which improves your ships overall star-rating or at least repairs.

first of all thanks for your answer but are no special resources necessary for ships to repair themselves and repair drones are only available for large ships how do m and s ships repair themselves

S ships don't repair themselves. For other ships repair drones help to speed it up.

S don't repair themselves but m do even without drones just slower. Is this right? when the service crew is at max. then fasterTheDeliveryMan wrote: ↑Tue, 21. May 24, 06:44S ships don't repair themselves. For other ships repair drones help to speed it up.

Yes, that is correct. Recommend consulting the 'Crews misc repairs' section of the In-depth FAQ for more info on this.Ageansnowfly wrote: ↑Tue, 21. May 24, 07:40S don't repair themselves but m do even without drones just slower. Is this right? when the service crew is at max. then faster
As for your original question, every ship bigger than S can benefit from service crew, marines are only needed on ships that are intended for boarding operations. Since crew can be swapped between roles fairly easily (in the crew section of ship info) I generally keep all of my crews on service crew duties & only switch them into marine mode immediately before starting a boarding op. Then, when they've finished slaughtering the other ship's crew & are back on board my ship, I switch them back to service crew duties.
