Come chill time! Epic boarding run (IMO at least) Carrier stuff and more destruction.

Post by lordmuck » Wed, 23. Jan 19, 01:46

Hey so firstly I popped in to the X4 Foundations Reddit page and there are only 85 people active at this current time. I have never seen it so low, I have however been noticing the online numbers decreasing the past week.
I wonder what that means....

I would love to see the numbers of active people on the forums here, I bet its the same thing going down hill.
Damn shame.

Anyway, I have been messing around as usual, seeing if the AI sucks terribly or just a little  with an epic GTA in space! and get some revenge on the Paranid for busting my drug runner all the damn time!
I also get stuff to blow up, by checking on the weed competition and saying GET OFF MA LAWN.

Hope you at least kill some time with me :)
As always your comments and suggestions are always welcome! Any ideas for future uploads will be really appreciated.

Watched bits and pieces, you mentioned some issues with the carrier, and for the most part I believe the behavior holds true across cap ships...

If you set a wing to the carrier by first creating a wing and then setting the wing commander to "defend".

Try to "nest" or cascade your wings such that their is a wing commander with a wing man and that wing man has a wing man and so on and so forth; then set only the wing commander to the carrier you can attach and detach that nested wing with a single command. It appears the "wing commanders" skill for the formation is the only one that is used as well as "that" formation.

Additionally setting the cap ship to "defend position" as its default command, and move the cap ship, not by normally selecting but by "updating" the position in the defend position, the cap ship "usually" recalls, and then "deploys" all the ships when relocating the position.

Ships attached to ships using this defend position command will better utilize the shield 'defend' automatically by script.

That is your not "stuck" manually launching and recovering all your drones and fighters.

Back in the early days of X3, this worked 'ok' and it seems not much has changed.

The AI appears to structure all its wings and sector ships in a similar fashion.

The biggest downside to this setup is that the range of the position defense is not correctly constrained... your ships will scamper off to whatever "you" can see with your sat network IS (usually).

Other than that... after a bunch of hours in game... kinda seen it / done it... not really worth modding until more of the core game is solidified... don't have the kind of time I did years ago with X. Could be the same with others. The 'late game' I suppose, if there is one, seems to compound a lot of the little issues one can just ignore right up till it becomes crippling.

Like.. the map FPS is in the toilet, ok.. well if your primarily tooling around IS with a little puddle jumper, no big deal?

Once you running 100-200 ships and 6-12 stations, and manipulating fleets and L/XL's... that map thing comes back in a big way. Now you have 30 faction with 1 or more of the main line factions... enjoy map spam, 50 percent of your game is now in the management mode.

Again, its the little niddly' bugs that add up which tend to suck the joy out of playing. Like... loading up 6 L's to haul a station build worth a wares to a new position and typing in the amounts... press 'enter' and it wipes out the amounts... not a big deal, when your doing the one or two items... once in awhile... and boom; crash to desktop as the map / inventory control trade wares bug isn't ironed out. Ohh.. didn't save? So now that station plan is gone... again you don't really see it in those first 40 hours... as open as the game is, its constrained by the rough systems within it grinding against each other; creating a series of constraints.

Just my 2c, enjoyed the vid though, thanks for sharing.

In my opinion after the first few weeks and the initial excitement for the release it looks like people are getting less and less interested. Judging only by the number of posts and from people replying and so forth. However I may be wrong on this and only people with access to forum stats can say for sure.On the spoilers forum as well things look as if are slowing down as well may be not enough spoilers any more I don't know.
If I was in ES shoes though I would be very worried if something like that was true.It doesn't look as if they are particularly concerned though so o hope I am wrong.

I avoid the forums because of all the negativity and constant snide comments. Players like me might be why some of the numbers are down.

I come to game communities because I like the game, not to hear people complain bitterly about it constantly.

It's quite possible that the forums are slowing down because people are learning the various ins and outs of the game. As with X3, and I'm sure others will attest to this, the forums were the main learning system to understand the game mechanics (and subsequently, various mods). I have a very busy universe, with hundreds of ships, twenty or more stations, and billions of credits, and my wife still bitches at me for staying in front of the computer too much...

I left Reddit and playing X4 cuz it's still de facto pre-Alpha version of game, by mistake called an "release". visiting forum sometimes for reading patchnotes and hope for best

the tendency started with utterly bad X rebirth, it seems when developers starting to focus visual fancy stuff like Betty-shmetty companions, animated npc"s, boring interactions etc., all other core things gone to shit, or like we say "vso pashlo po pizde".

Watched bits and pieces,

<snip>

I felt that with X3 and carriers I had much more flexibility, the m3's would fly with it when needed. They would be deployed with no issues and deployed well before the carrier is attacked. In X4 the carrier needs to be attacked most times for them to deploy.. Its finicky to say the least, Defend position can help yes, but this will no be able to suit all our needs 100% of the time. We would need to set the carrier perhaps to attack or want the wings in that carrier to attack X and we cannot do this without US the player, sitting in the seat of the wing leader for all them ships to issue "wing attack my target" and even then, they fly off, attack and all want to land. The escorts of the wings for the carrier hardly want to do anything if their lead is not attacked on that single attack run, they would turn around and want to land. I have this footage, just did not show it in this upload. X3 They docked nicely and un-docked when enemies would be in X range, which is something I have been asking for.

I also ran into the issue of queuing up attacks, if you seen some of my other uploads I hit T on a module, and "wing attack my target" I repeat this for as many modules I want removed. While these wings are assigned to "defend" the carrier, the queue order started from the last thing I told them to attack, and between each attack you would see :
Attack
Undock
Attack
undock
for each n of modules

So everything goes down hill and works against you while using a carrier with wings assigned to it.
Nested wings have their issues too :/
I will never understand how the wings will ignore their team mates getting hammered in the butthole and do nothing only due to the fact that we have one command "defend " to create a wing. They will only defend the wing leader, not even caring about them selves. If one of the team is under attack and the wing lead is flying straight, that ship under attack will do absolutely nothing and not even brake off to attack or out manoeuvre

I understand your frustration with what you have listed, we all have run into these things constantly something is happening that is wrong/broken/does not make any sense/illogical and I sit here with some small hope for something decent to be released by the team.

Doubt they would be concerned, perhaps feel a little better as the stream of issues has slowed down lol, they made their $$. I only say this as we get ZERO communication from them. You have noticed the difference too in the forums, at least I'm not the only one :)

True but with so many issues, peoples limits are different, you may be happy with that much |....| others with this much |........|. :/ . I indeed bring up issues and things I dont like, but only with respect to Egosoft so they can make things better. I dont just say "THIS SUCKS" and walk off, I also offer my thoughts as to how something could be improved or what is lacking. Yet without any communication from the team its like whatever we post is for nothing. Bugs get unnoticed due to more recent things pushing our old reports way behind, we see no bug list showing what has been accepted as a bug and will be worked on nor the same for suggestions.

 @ the wife :D . I understand your point. X4 imo is going to turn into a micro management game considering we have to hold the AI's hand with each step it takes :/

Oh man, dont get me started. If Egosoft had just simply said "EARLY ACCESS" I would have bought it still, yet I would not be feeling so salty about the game and its issues as they would have said its "EARLY ACCESS" . This is why I feel they got a lot of hate and mixed reviews. They could have easily got around a number of bad reviews by saying "oh hey it is early access you know".
But they have not said this and with the issues, functions that we are missing from previous X games, we also have bugs from previous X games that were fixed back then yet not here.. Shear lack of depth and much less than half finished. Yes there will be complaints and more when they did as you mention on what they focused on. So if they simply said EARLY ACCESS, I would have not looked at the game as I have just stated above this line of text and would be sitting impatiently waiting for the next thing / update they release for the game.
