I found a Nova Vanguard in Nopileos Fortune II just sitting in space and thought it was abandoned because it did not register as belonging to one of the 3 letter factions. So, I fly up to scan it before claiming, but it appears there is a civilian pilot on board with 2 crew members and the order to wait. I think the pilot was "Ace Brano" or something like that. Not sure if this is plot related somewhere so am why I'm posting in the spoiler forums. I have completed the space race plot for the gambling den module for my stations a while ago ... thinking it's maybe related to that?
Thanks,

If that Nova has the same paintjob as other BUC-ships (some black-orange-scheme, that may inspire a sense of 'Attention' or 'Warning'), then this ship belongs to the starting phase of the Paranid-plot.
Have you started the Paranid-plot?

I have not started anything Paranid other than gaining rep through trades.
The ship is green with red stripes & I took a picture to see if anyone recognizes.

Re: Civilian Owned Nova Vanguard?
A year later and a different game start allowed me to finally figure this one out.
The civilian ship is the losing racer from to the mission to get the gambling den.
Only this time around the civilian ship is an Elite, but located in the exact same spot.
SE area of Nopileos Fortune II a short ways past the highways entry/exit on the right.
Not sure if Egosoft wants to see to it's future deletion or if it is meant to be captured?

Teasing the ship won't make pilot to abandon his ship. Tested that.
He just flies circles when you attack and if you leave him alone returns back to his place waiting. And after awhile cools down.
