If a NATO country acts as a protecting power in a war zone, it is at war. NATO troops are not UN peacekeepers

NATO members actively preparing/gearing up troops and equipment for potential deployment in Ukraine. Seems likely to happen to some extent.
French seem to be waking up.

If there's a will for action, I hope they don't wait for the war to drag on.

In other news, I met another family who escaped both Donbass and Russia. Their stories are pretty grim.

Guess "nice stories" in that context / from that area are pretty rare / non-existant these days.

A few days ago I read about this situation (russian family tried to escape mobilisation)
https://taz.de/Russische-Familie-abgeschoben/!6010751/ (german article)

While this might not be "as grim" as the stories you heard - I took note of it because of the fact that a) both father & son of one family were drafted [for the same conflict] and b) that the [german] state didn't accept the asylum provided by the [protestant] church. (point b is also what is discussed in germany since then)

Be it as it may: :(

I guess more Europeans are remembering what happened the last time they tried to appease/ignore a leader that was hell-bent on conquest.

At least 2 oil refineries hit within the last few days. Tuapse oil refinery and Kuban oil refinery were hit.

A third refinery might have been hit Vyborg.

Ukraine is using the glide bombs.

At least 4 Russian jets and 2 air defence systems (radar + launcher?) destroyed in attacks.

Large russian radar installation hit in attack.

Russian submarine base that was supposed to be abandoned was hit by many missiles in an attack.

Starlink got jammed during the first part of the Russian attack on Kharkiv region.

One of the largest Russian ammo depots got blown up.

Very many Ukrainian drones being launched every day to attack Russian assets. ~35 explosions heard in some areas. And drone after drone strike seen on some assets. Hours of strikes.

Ukraine still not allowed to attack Russian regions areas with US weapons so Russians can stay relatively safe behind their border and regroup, resupply, etc.... there.

Putin might be selling part of Gazprom off.

Russia trying to seize banks assets including Deutsche Bank.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/russia-f ... 40846.html

Estonia is also building trenches and bunkers.

Irans Presidents helicopter crashed and still hasn't been located? The other helicopters might have just kept on flying.

Iranian President is dead. He was a pretty bad person. He arranged the deal to give russia the Shahed drones and was famous for hanging people. Lots of people happy in Iran.

He might have been involved in the hanging/torture of over 10,000 people. He was a pretty bad guy.

Rumour - Ukraine might have damaged/sunk two more russian ships. Hopefully the salvage ship Kommuna and it's rescue sub (it likely wasn't hit during the attack on the Kommuna) are still nonoperational. Might prevent/slow the recovery of cruise missiles, etc... from one of the ships. Might also prevent the salvaging/recovery of the ships themselves. Less likely.

Russia getting mad about their over the horizon missile detection system being blown up. Blew up a shopping mall in retaliation. Russian bombers currently flying so probably more strikes.

Ukraines averaging about 1 Russian plane blown up every 2 days?

Russia began carrying tactical nukes. UK and probably also other countries carrying around their nukes now. France building the next gen of their nuclear missiles.

China blockades Taiwan for at least 2 days.

Ukraine counter attacking in some areas.

Casualties decreasing over last couple days so maybe Russia is taking a break on pushing to Kharkiv. More Russian equipment is being sent to that region.

Russia's claiming some areas of the Baltic states and Finland.

Russias trying to get Belarus involved in the war more directly which might cross NATOs stated red line for attacking.

The "document, dated May 21st" about unilateral redefinition of borders did vanish soon afterwards. Probing, they are.

On May 23rd, Russia removed some buyos from Narva river. Those buoys marked the border between Russia and Estonia.

Someone mentioned earlier that we are inching towards WWIII, the escalations are certainly happening gradually. There's no question in my mind that NATO can take care of Russia and China, the question is what the next chapter looks like... (Mad Max, Fallout...).

Neither. The concepts of nuclear winter, mass starvation are just Soviet propaganda from cold war which took on its own life in literature and films. Same applies for anti-nuclear movements in the West. World would move on - but who is the biggest guy on the hill will change. Bollywood would be center of culture instead of Hollywood (not an improvement nor is it a reduction). I am far more worried about food production being affected by temperature changes around the world tbh.

Furthermore, both Soviet and China lost wars without launching nuclear weapons against enemies that could not retaliate. I am talking about Afghanistan in 80s and Vietnam in 79 (Chinese bots are doing their best to whitewash their defeat online - they got hammered by Vietnamese).

Why hypothesise about something we know nothing about and cannot know anything about. It's pointless fantasy for pointless fantasy sake.
There is plenty of actual reality available without delving into the world of imagination. If we were to worry and discuss every "what if", apart from never having enough time to cover every possibly what if scenario (let alone have any clue as to what the outcomes would actually be!) - 99.99% of the "what ifs" would have been an incredible waste of time for not having occurred.

Life is too short.

Ukraine damaged another over the horizon radar complex a couple days ago. Might have been the main over the horizon radar complex. The target was 1800 km away from the Ukraine border. Not all the planes made it to the target. Might be in preparation for more missile strikes, Ukraine getting planes, etc... The radars are used for more than just detecting ballistic missiles.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/fire-damage- ... 00402.html

More attacks on Russian bases, more planes blown up, etc...

Hungary blocks 7.1b more aid. Hungary apparently also wants to take a non combat role in NATO.

https://news.yahoo.com/news/gone-very-f ... 48724.html

Ukraine gets 1.13b euros in more aid from Spain.

I gotta wonder if that's a majority opinion, do Hungarians really want out of NATO and into with Russia? I am wondering more and more that it's not just Orban.
